«The history of our name:

Alpha : As the first letter of the Greek alphabet, it symbolizes the fact that Alpha Chi Omega was the first fraternity founded in the School of Music at DePauw University.

Chi : Originally "kai", meaning "and", was written between the Alpha and the Omega when the organization was noted, but then it came time to design a badge and Chi took the place of "kai".

Omega : As the last letter of the Greek alphabet, it symbolizes the fact that the founders of Alpha Chi Omega felt they may be founding the last of fraternities like theirs.

«The story of our founding:

Alpha Chi Omega was founded on October 15, 1885, at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana.  Professor James Hamilton Howe, Dean of the Music School, invited seven young women from the school to attend a meeting for the purpose of forming a society.  The first appearance of the seven founders was in Meharry Hall, wearing scarlet and olive ribbon streamers attached to their dresses.
