Tri Delta Philanthropy

Throughout the school year our sisters continually work hard fundraising for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Located in Memphis, Tennessee, St. Jude is one of the world’s premier pediatric cancer research centers. Its mission is to find cures for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Each semester, our sisters raise money to help St. Jude continue their research to find cures and save children. In 2008, our sisters helped St. Jude by raising $80,000. Villanova’s Tridelta chapter has earned the Philanthropy Award two years in a row as well as the Best First-Time Philanthropy Event Award. Below is more information about our events during the semesters and our national pledges to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital. Partnership with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

In November 1999, Tri Delta further enhanced its current philanthropic focus by forming a partnership with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. This partnership allows Tri Delta chapters the option to help St. Jude on a national level as well as support traditional philanthropic events for local children's cancer charities.

St. Jude is a unique pediatric treatment and research facility where brilliant medical scientists are making breakthroughs daily in the fight against children's cancer.  The hospital is world-renowned, and doctors from all over the world send their toughest cases to be treated there.  St. Jude offers the latest in treatment and care, both through medical and psychological support.

St. Jude is America's 4th-largest health-care charity: all patients who are accepted for treatment there are done so without regard to the family's ability to pay.  The hospital does not ask for treatment beyond what is covered by the patient's insurance, and also provides assistance with transportation, lodging, and meal costs while their patients are getting treated.  In addition to providing patients and families with emotional support, the hospital employs a teaching staff to offer education assistance for out-of-town patients during their stay in Memphis.

10 in 10 for St. Jude

Tri Delta has committed to name the Patient Care Floor in the new Chili's Care Center at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. This commitment is for $10 million over a period of 10 years! The Tri Delta Patient Care Floor will include 18 new inpatient rooms in the Chili's Care Center. This will allow the hospital to sustain expected growth rates foreseen over the next five years.

Hospital Teen Room

In September 2002, Tri Delta agreed to a four year $1 million endowment for the hospital's Teen Room, which was completed in January 2005

One year, One million

Tri Delta members raised more than $1 million for St. Jude. This makes Tri Delta one of the only national Greek organizations in the the country to reach this impressive goal raising $1 million in a year for their philanthropic partner.

Events We Host On Campus

Fall Philanthropy Events

Alexandra "Alex" Scott was the 8 year old founder of Alex's Lemonade Stand For Pediatric Cancer Research. Two days before her first birthday she was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, an aggressive childhood cancer. At the age of four, Alex decided to do something to make that cure more likely. She opened her first lemonade stand in July of 2000 with the idea of donating the proceeds to "her hospital." Each year since, Alex has held an annual lemonade stand in her front yard. As word has spread, donations have poured in from around the world, and she has raised over $1,400,000 for pediatric cancer. (www.alexslemonade.com)

Our Villanova Tri Delta chapter hosted Lemonade stands up and down Lancaster Ave for Alex; with the help and sponsorship from the community we were able to raise more than 2,000 dollars.  We will to continue to work for Alex's mission by hosting stands and making donations to Alex's fund, helping to support children's cancer research. On Alex's website you can also find out ways that you get support her cause and set up a stand in your own neighborhood.

Delta House of Pancakes

Dhop is a midnight pancake event hosted right before finals week, in Donahue Hall (The Spit). With an unlimited amount of pancakes and toppings, DHOP is the best study break one could ask for. Tridelta sisters cook pancakes to raise money for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.  There were individual and team pancake eating contests and prizes; with these events, we were able to raise nearly $900 to be donated to St. Jude.

Kickball Tournament

Tridelta's Annual Kickball Tournament is one of the most well-known events on campus. This event is paired with our Sincerely Yours Campaign in which team members participating in the tournament addresses letters to family and friends asking for donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The day of the tournament includes a DJ, free food, and a t-shirt for all participants and the winning team receives a personalized trophy! In 2008, we raised $75,000!!! This helped our chapter rank into the #2 position of highest fundraising chapters in the nation.
