Delta Gamma Philanthropy: Aid to the Blind

"Philanthropy is almost the only virtue which is sufficiently appreciated by mankind."

- Henry David Thoreau -

Delta Gamma focuses its philanthropy efforts nationally on Aid to the Blind.  As stated on the national website, Since 1952, we have given $2,256,808 to 50 organizations in the United States and Canada. The total hours of service reported for fiscal year 2006-07 was 97,598.  Nationally, the average Delta Gamma volunteer gives 10-15 hours of service per week to the fraternity.

Delta Gamma has weekly service hour opportunities, usually on Friday afternoons, at Overbrook School for the Blind.

One of our most popular fundraising activities is the annual Anchorsplash Event, where members of different Greek organizations compete in swimming events.  It is "one of the most well recognized philanthropic fundraisers in the Greek world today."

Another highly popular fundraising event we do on campus is the Delta Gamma Jeans Sale.  This is a semi-annual event, where we sell brands such as Lucky Brand Jeans, True Religion, Rock And Republic, Seven for All Mankind, Citizens Jeans, Juicy Couture, and for the first time this year Northface Fleeces and Lacoste Polos for discounted prices.   The majority of the money raised is donated to Aid to the Blind.

We also participate in the General Mills Box Tops for Education Program as another project to raise money for Delta Gamma Service for Sight, and work with Lions Clubs, International to donate eyeglasses for the needy.

Here at Villanova, you will also find Delta Gamma's in most campus philanthropic organizations and projects.  This includes Special Olympics, the Day of Service, Bigs and Littles, Habitat for Humanity Trips,  Service Trips, and New Directions.  And of course, Delta Gamma supports all other Greek Organizations in their philanthropy efforts.

This year we would like to recognize our sisters who spent their spring break on service trips in Honduras and Guatemala!
