Shamrock Event

Known nationally as Kappa Delta's "Shamrock Event," each year, thousands of KDs in hundreds of communities nationwide join forces in a collective effort to raise money for national and local child abuse prevention efforts.

Shamrock Events have been held annually since 1984 and are as varied and creative as the groups that sponsor them.
Golf and softball tournaments, fun runs, chili cook-offs, war-of-the wings contests, spaghetti dinners, Twister contests, "Teeter-Totter-a-Thons", fashion shows, and paintball tournaments are just a few of the visible fundraisers held by Kappa Delta chapters and alumnae associations.

Of the money raised through these events, a full 80% of the proceeds stays in the local community and is donated to local child abuse agencies; the remaining 20% is donated to PCAA's national office for its national prevention efforts.  Since the Shamrock Event's inception, Kappa Delta has collected over $5 million and has donated nearly $1.5 million to PCAA.

Girl Scouts of the USA

In 1998, Kappa Delta began its national collaboration with the Girl Scouts of the USA in order to lend hearts and hands to young women everywhere. With this partnership, KD became the first and only NPC group to adopt Girl Scouts as a national philanthropy.

KDs across the country are working with Girl Scouts in a number of ways. Many sponsor troops or have become troop leaders. Alumnae and collegians continue to assist Girl Scouts earn badges and patches including the Girl Scout/Kappa Delta badge. These activities include holding workshops and seminars in issues such as etiquette, self-esteem, or perform civic or service work such as the planting of trees, and sharing the fun of parties, holiday events, costume events, parades and sleepovers.
